Blog Tour: Enchantment: Review

Enchantment
By: Charlotte Abel
Release Date: June 23, 2011
Series: Channie #1

Description:
Sixteen year old Channie Kerns leads an idyllic life of seclusion and magic deep in the Ozark Mountains ... until her family is forced to flee for their lives.

They leave everything and everyone behind to start over in Louisville, Colorado. Magic is forbidden while they are in hiding, but Channie can't resist the temptation to enchant a group of local boys. When her overbearing parents catch her flirting with these "sex-crazed, non-magical delinquents," they slap a chastity spell on her to protect her virtue.

The spell is triggered by lust, so just navigating the halls at her new school is an ordeal. She can't even touch a boy she's attracted to without blasting him with a jolt of magical energy that feels like a taser.

When Channie falls in love with Josh Abrim, a BMX racer with dangerous secrets of his own, she rebels against her parents and turns to dark and forbidden magic to break the chastity spell ... with disastrous results.

Review:
I haven't read any books specifically about witches in a while so this was a treat for me.  The characters all had their own personalities and really seemed to learn a lot more than they thought they could throughout the book.  Especially the main character, Channie.

Imagine your parents putting a curse on you and changing your name to Chastity Belks, yes that is exactly what happened to Channie.  Her parents, especially her father, didn't want her to have the same fate as her sister Abundance who was very young and had triplets.  Of course Channie never felt that something like that would happen to her but with a given name like Enchantment the guys would always flock to her, and hence her parents decided to change her name to Chastity.  But instead of making her life better this particular curse made her life more difficult that she could have imagined.  Especially because of Josh.

She randomly met Josh by accident but from the moment they met there was an undeniable attraction between them.  But with her being cursed and him being an empty it was bound to not work out.  But try as they might time and time again they tried to be together.  It was really difficult on them in so many ways but they fought through it because their love was that strong with each other.  It's hard when you find love that strong, you just can't deny it.

Through all their hardships trying to get rid of Channie's curse their love grew stronger and those around them just could not keep the two apart.  Eventually Channie tried to leave him and go back home to her magical ancestors but even with people searching for her because of her father's debts they made it through it together.  There are revelations throughout the book that lead up to a really amazing ending, one which I was hoping for but still completely surprised me in a happy and hopeful way.

I hope you give this book a read because it was really interesting and is definitely something unlike anything I have ever read in the past.  Really interesting and I can't wait to check out the next book in the series, because there is a storm a comin and Channie and Josh will be in the middle of it.  Great read.  Love the cover, you hardly see books with BMX'rs on it so it was a great change.
