Review:
I haven’t read a book like this in a while, a book that made
me feel sentimental on different levels.
There are so many different issues in this book that it just makes you
wonder if people are really still like that and unfortunately the answer is
yes. Amber Hart really made me think and I really enjoy the experience these
two main characters shared together, I will definitely be continuing the
series. Especially after reading that sneak peek, has me more intrigued than
anything.
We meet Diego who has recently left Cuba to move to Florida
and here he meets Faith, who is his peer helper showing him around the
school. From the second they meet there
is a physical attraction and throughout their time in school it just seems to
grow as they happen to run into one another more often than not, this of course
is while Faith still has a boyfriend. Diego
leaves behind in Cuba a life of violence but still hasn’t been able to get over
this need to do what he is good at. This
store reads a little west side story (but I love that movie). There are a lot of cultural differences
between the two but they find a happy medium when they are together, they make
each other happy and that is what counts.

They both struggle to find the freedom they so desire, and
with each other they find it slowly.
There are a lot of arguments in this book but it comes with the
territory of a. stealing someone’s girlfriend, b. being from a former violent
background and c. being the pastor’s daughter throw all those elements together
and some really great writing and you have a really amazing book and start to a
great series that I can’t wait to continue on.
Amber Hart did a great justice to this freshly made interracial
couple that we don’t get to see very often, Latino and white. The struggles they have to go through to be together,
the secrets they hold on each other and society as a whole, and of course the
immense passion they have for one another.
This book had a little bit of everything involved and I couldn’t put it
down. Believe me if you enjoy a good
young adult/new adult book you will definitely love this book. There is drama, fighting, romance and an all-encompassing
love story.
