Review:
This was an interesting book that was written differently than I’m definitely used to. Yes it was chapter on and off between both characters, but whereas one was written in prose the other was written in poetry I suppose. It was different. I didn't really like it in the beginning but as the story progressed I just went with the flow. The story line was good, a little plain for me but still a good read.
We meet Lauren as she moves to a new town to live with her family for a while, and Colby who is the town golden boy. I know in the book they mention him as being the hero but I don’t really think he did anything heroic in my eyes, he’s just the golden boy that everyone looks up to and counts on, which that in itself is a lot of pressure to put on a 17 year old. They both struggle with the things that have happened in their lives and struggle to find out who they want to be.
While they both have struggles with their parents, it’s for different reasons. Where one is trying to live vicariously through one the other wants to run away from their child. It’s all very heart breaking some of the moments that happen in this book and it’s sweet and endearing. Like I said I didn’t enjoy at first but when things started flowing I got into it more. I enjoyed the characters even if they were very straight edge for my taste. The story was good though because it showed how much stress our young people go through today to succeed and satisfy everyone; well at least the good ones do if they care.
Overall this book was interesting it had some sentimental points in it and some tragedies that you never want to see, but sometimes that are life and that’s what you have to go through its how you handle it that makes you the person you are. Just remember to always believe in yourself and trust what you want because only you can make yourself happy.
