Series: Ten Tiny Breaths #4

Description:
Sometimes you can’t change—and sometimes you just don’t want to. Discover Ben’s side of the story in this fourth novel by the beloved, top-selling indie author praised for her “likeable characters, steamy liaisons, and surprising plot twists” (Kirkus Reviews).

Purple-haired, sharp-tongued Reese MacKay knows all about making the wrong choice; she’s made plenty of them in her twenty-odd-years. So when her impulsive, short-lived marriage ends in heartbreak, she decides it’s time for a change. She moves to Miami with the intention of hitting reset on her irresponsible life, and she does quite well…aside from an epically humiliating one-night stand in Cancun with a hot blond bouncer named Ben. Thank God she can get on a plane and leave that mistake behind her.

Football scholarship and frat parties with hot chicks? Part of charmer Ben Morris’s plan. Blown knee that kills any hope of a professional football career? So not part of the plan. Luckily Ben has brains to go with his knockout looks and magnetism. After three long years of balancing law school with his job as a bouncer at Penny’s Palace, he’s ready to lead a more mature life—until his first day of work, when he finds himself in the office of that crazy, hot chick he met in Cancun. The one he hasn’t stopped thinking about.

If Ben truly were a smart guy, he’d stay clear of Reese. She’s the boss’s stepdaughter and it’s been made very clear that office romances are grounds for dismissal. Plus, rumor has it she’s trouble. The only problem is, he likes trouble, especially when it’s so good-looking…

Review:

I have really come to enjoy this series by K.A. Tucker each one is a different adventure while at the same time focusing on all the same characters in one way or another.  This is Ben’s story, the forever playboy who loves to flirt and have fun while finally becoming the lawyer he’s been working towards.  K.A. Tucker moves us a little farther away from the world of Penny’s and strippers, but there are still some guest appearances here and there.

Ben has always been a flirt and can back up what he’s talking about but when he meets this purple haired mystery of a girl and things just don’t turn out the way he wanted them to he couldn’t help but keep her in his mind.  Of course as the glorious fates would have it she turns out to be the daughter of the owner of the law firm he just got a job at and therefore the plot thickens.  The two characters couldn’t be more different but very much a like in so many ways.  I love how much of a cocky flirt Ben is and I love how Reese is one bad ass chick with a great attitude.

There are some really great scenes in this book that will both hurt you and make you feel empowered at the same time – just watch out for the paintballs, that’s all I’m saying.  But through and through the connection these two characters have is so out of left field but it just goes to show you how much sometimes it’s good to have someone to lean on and that is what these two characters have.  Even though they like to bicker back and forth, it’s more of foreplay because when they connect, it’s magical.

This story was endearing and tough at times, there is definitely a lot of story there on both ends with a lot of issues, mainly trust and fidelity.  I love how they work together to get through some of these issues even if sometimes it wasn’t worth it.  Sometimes instead of wanting what you used to have it’s better to move forward with something that is both healthy and good for you.  Sometimes it’s just time to let go of the past.  I think that’s a major part in this story too, not only the trusting but letting go and moving on, you don’t always have to end up being like your parent.

This story was told from both POV’s and I’ve always enjoyed books like that because you get to see two sides, as you know in reality there are three sides to each story his, hers, and the truth lol, but this is great too.  The new characters introduced were really interesting too, and I don’t know if there will be any other books in this series (I hope there will be because there is still so much more to explore), if there is I hope its Nate’s story! Now there’s a guy I want to know about because they just talk about his size so much and such loyalty. I’m crossing my fingers for that one.

I love the cover; Reese with the burgundy hair is great, going down the orange grove.  All the covers in this series have been very befitting and beautiful.  I can’t wait to read something else by this author, great series and great book.
