So when her impulsive, short-lived marriage ends in heartbreak, she decides it’s time for a change. She moves to Miami with the intention of hitting reset on her irresponsible life, and she does quite well…aside from an epically humiliating one-night stand in Cancun with a hot blond bouncer named Ben. Thank God she can get on a plane and leave that mistake behind her.

Football scholarship and frat parties with hot chicks? Part of charmer Ben Morris’s plan. Blown knee that kills any hope of a professional football career? So not part of the plan. Luckily Ben has brains to go with his knockout looks and magnetism. After three long years of balancing law school with his job as a bouncer at Penny’s Palace, he’s ready to lead a more mature life—until his first day of work, when he finds himself in the office of that crazy, hot chick he met in Cancun. The one he hasn’t stopped thinking about.

If Ben truly were a smart guy, he’d stay clear of Reese. She’s the boss’s stepdaughter and it’s been made very clear that office romances are grounds for dismissal. Plus, rumor has it she’s trouble. The only problem is, he likes trouble, especially when it’s so good-looking…

Review: Masquerade by Nyrae Dawn

Masquerade
By: Nyrae Dawn
Release Date: January 7, 2014
Series: The Game Series #3

Description:
A biker. A tattoo artist. A love to last a lifetime.Maddox Cross has always had to be tough. When his father went to jail for murder, the teenager took care of his sister and mother. Now on his own and working security at a night club, Maddox wants to become a tattoo artist-a dream that comes closer to reality when he falls for the hottest, most tatted woman he's ever seen. She's wild and beautiful, and Maddox will do anything to be with her.

Bee Malone came to town to open up her new tattoo parlor, Masquerade. Since being kidnapped as a young girl, Bee has had trouble getting close to anyone. But when she meets Maddox, she sees that under his hard biker's body is the sensitive soul of an artist. What starts out as a sizzling one-night stand soon becomes so much more.

Bee wants Maddox to join her tattoo business, but letting him into her life means revealing all her most intimate secrets. And as the past begins to intertwine with her present, Bee fears their love may not be as permanent as their ink . . .
Review:

This series has not disappointed me yet.  There is something special about these characters and the way they find each other. The connections they all have with one another without even knowing it, really it’s like they are finally finding their other half and it’s a beautiful thing to experience.  I couldn’t put this book down until it was completed.  It had me thinking before during and after about this book and that’s what I love most about it.  Something that makes you think about it, something that is memorable because really how can people be so unbelievably broken but still push through it.  It was just really an amazing read and Nyrae Dawn is an amazing writer.

We met “Bee” as she’s just opening her tattoo shop up, the blond headed tattooed girl who seems to have a tough outer appearance, someone who doesn’t take bullshit and tells it how it is, but this is all a Masquerade (it’s the name of her shop and how she really is).  I love how the titles fit so perfectly with each of the characters in this series.  So she just happens by chance to meet Maddox when she’s out one night, and them being adults they go and do adult things, at least for one night.  At least that’s what it was supposed to be.  But in comes Maddox with the urge to learn tattooing and guess whose shop he goes into.  That’s right, Bee’s.

We go through their back and forth struggle with wanting one another but knowing that neither one of them does the whole steady thing.  It’s exciting to see two people so meant for each other struggle with the fear of actually caving in and giving this whole new experience a shot.  There are bits and pieces with the main characters from the other books in this series; after all they are all interrelated in one way or another.  That is what makes them such a tight knit group.  Laney plays a big part in trying to play matchmaker, but even still Maddox continues to fight it.

There are some important things that happen in this book, more revelations that happen between the five of them and then the newcomer Bee’s revelations are made to Maddox.  It’s all very crazy and wild and still very much oddly real.  Because even though some of the things are crazy and you wonder how so much bad stuff can happen to so many people who know each other, still it’s interesting to see how they all gravitate to one another because of their past and their brokenness.

Overall I thoroughly enjoyed the book.  Love the series and think each book brings their own to the table and none of them have been disappointing as of yet.  Nyrae Dawn is a great writer and I’ve always enjoyed her books and her collaborations with other authors as well.  The cover is really great too because yummy for that guy on there.  Seriously! Definitely a must read for all who love new adult books and just a good book in general.  It was a quick and easy read that will have you hooked from the very beginning.

Seeking Her Release Day Launch Banner

Seeking HerI am so excited to share in the Release Day Launch and giveaway for Cora Carmack's SEEKING HER!!

SEEKING HER
by Cora Carmack
Release Date: 1/28/14
Series: Losing It 3.5
Published by William Morrow (an imprint of HarperCollins)

Description:
A few months after being honorably discharged from the military, Jackson Hunt is still struggling to adjust back to the real world. He needs to get a job and find a sense of normalcy if he’s going to keep his own demons at bay. The job that falls into his lap, though, is anything but normal.

Bodyguard (and baby-sitter) to spoiled-rich-girl Kelsey Summers isn’t exactly what he’d been looking for, but it’s a chance to travel, to get away from the home that has felt stifling ever since his return. It would be a pretty sweet gig if it weren’t for the fact that Kelsey’s father doesn’t want Kelsey to know she’s being followed. Hunt feels guilty (and a little bit creepy) as he watches her from afar. She’s vibrant and infuriating, exciting and reckless, mysterious and familiar. When he sees her falling into the same patterns that he suffered years ago, he decides it’s time to stop watching and help her instead. But getting to know her is more difficult than he thought, especially because the more he knows her, the more he wants her.

SEEKING HER Excerpt:
I was going to have to find some way to cope with this. If not, I was better off calling Mr. Summers and suggesting he find someone else to take over his daughter-watch.
I felt a pang of something at that thought. It was a general kind of discomfort, and I wasn’t sure whether it was the thought of returning home or something else that made that thought so unappealing.

After the cooling walk earlier, and now standing under the cool, calming rush of water, it was easier to think that I could control myself, but I knew better. It always seemed easier in my head than it really was.

I wiped the water from my eyes, and tried to think of some other way to deal. There was always the hope that Kelsey would get bored. That she would mellow out. If she only partied a couple nights a week, I should be able to resist. But that seemed unlikely.

All that restless energy; the way she’d soaked up the attention from the people around her. I couldn’t see her giving that up. And it was working for her. She was still in the phase where partying made her feel good. That was the one thing that helped me stay clean. The few times I’d slipped up since I started the program had left me miserable and angry, and even more frustrated than when I started. I’d found new ways to chase the high. And maybe that wasn’t any healthier, not when one way involved being in the midst of flying bullets.

It wasn’t the same kind of rush, but it did the trick. I pictured Kelsey again, laughing with her head thrown back, her shirt falling off her shoulder and displaying the gentle curve of her neck. It reminded me of the way she’d tossed her head back that first day out in the woods.

The memory of that caused a different kind of rush in me, and I groaned, pressing my forehead into the tile. Before I could help myself, I pictured her long legs straddling that guy in the gardens. The bright green material of her bra, and the way it conformed to her perfect chest. She leaned back, her fingertips trailing from the bark of the tree to his shoulders.

In an instant, the memory shifted into fantasy, and those were my shoulders she clung to, not his.
That was my undoing. There was only so much resisting I could do in one night.

Review: Lila and Ethan: Forever and Always by Jessica Sorenson

Lila and Ethan: Forever and Always
By Jessican Sorensen
Release Date: December 24, 2013
Series: The Secret #4.5

Description:
Lila Summers just wants to know one thing for certain: that Ethan Gregory will be with her always. Once her friend, he's become so much more, melting the pain of her past away with each kiss. Now Lila is on a road trip with Ethan, in the wilderness under the stars, and she can't imagine her life without him. But when she talks about the future, something in Ethan changes . . .

Ethan has no doubts about his feelings for Lila. His life with her gets better every day-and that's the scary part. How can he walk into a future where he has everything to lose? With Lila, his whole heart is on the line for the very first time. But if Ethan can't give her the promise she needs, his greatest fear might come true: he'll lose Lila for good.

Review:
This was a very sweet and simple and very short story.  I was actually expecting more from this little book.  It was a quick read and even though I enjoy the story of Lila and Ethan this book did them no justice at all.  I wanted more from them, something deeper.

We are a month out from the last book when Ella and Micha finally tied the knot.  Lila and Ethan are on their road trip living off the land and that's such a cool concept and I'm not sure I could do it.  Maybe one day if I'm brave enough.   Anyway back to the story its really all about Ethan's struggle with what the future will bring.  He doesn't want to end up like his parents and he doesn't want Lila to end up like hers.  They have some really sweet moments and I'm really sad to see them go.

I think the story ended a little abruptly like I was definitely expecting a little bit more.  but all in all Jessica Sorensen has me hooked on all her books and all her wonderful characters.  I love the cover and the tattoo.  So significant to their relationship and to Lila in general.  Great quick and easy read and a semi ending to Lila and Ethan because it left me wanting more.

Review:

This was a very attention grabbing kind of book.  I cannot even begin to fathom the experiences these characters went through individually at all.  The author did a remarkable job on bringing these two dark stories together and bringing two people a little bit of happiness in their lives together, because as you read this you will see how much they both deserve it.

We meet Amber as she’s off to college alone and trying to deal with something so tragic that happened in her pass, along with the loss of her brother and boyfriend.  She’s about to get a tattoo which in itself is out of the ordinary for her but she has to do it to remember the things she’s lost in her life recently.  This is when we first meet Marcus, who is always getting females attention but for some reason Amber doesn’t give him the time of day.  This of course to any guy bruises his ego which also makes him more interested in her.  You always want what you can’t have right?

Needless to say they run into each other over and over again and eventually they become friends as he starts to tutor her in Math.  But as their paths cross so does their past and the images that are constantly haunting them.  Knowing they are both broken they are able to help each other out in different ways, but together they are better people. Even their friends see how much they are good together and how miserable they are when they are fighting with one another.  This is a sweet and shocking story about two people who need each other.

It’s a definite must read, especially to find out what exactly happens in their past and how they have dealt with it, will give ideas on what not to do but then again hopefully you will never but put in that position.  There were a few shocking moments that even I wasn’t expecting and that always makes me like a book more when I can actually be surprised.  There are some relationships in the book that I feel could have been a little more developed, like the mother and the best friend, but you can’t cram everything into the book sometimes you have to come to your own conclusions.

Overall the plot of this book was fantastic and yeah I’ve seen and read a lot of books about “broken” people and them finding each other but I have to say none have experienced what these two have.  The setting was great; the beginning of college when your life is supposed to change completely and it sure does, hopefully for the better where you make lifelong friends.  The writing was great and kept me thinking about the book even when I didn’t have it in my hands and that’s always a plus. The cover was okay nothing spectacular but still good, not really how I pictured the characters in my head.  I give it a good 4 out of 5.

Release Day Launch : One Tiny Lie by K.A. Tucker

One Tiny Lie
By: K.A. Tucker
Release Date: January 14, 2014
Series: Ten Tiny Breaths #2

Description:
Livie has always been the stable one of the two Cleary sisters, handling her parents' tragic death and Kacey's self-destructive phase with strength and maturity. But underneath that exterior is a little girl hanging onto the last words her father ever spoke to her. “Make me proud,” he had said. She promised she would...and she’s done her best over the past seven years with every choice, with every word, with every action.

Livie walks into Princeton with a solid plan, and she’s dead set on delivering on it: Rock her classes, set herself up for medical school, and meet a good, respectable guy that she’s going to someday marry. What isn’t part of her plan are Jell-O shots, a lovable, party animal roommate she can’t say ‘no’ to, and Ashton, the gorgeous captain of the men’s rowing team. Definitely him. He’s an arrogant ass who makes Livie’s usually non-existent temper flare and everything she doesn’t want in a guy. Worse, he’s best friends and roommates with Connor, who happens to fits Livie’s criteria perfectly. So why does she keep thinking about Ashton?

As Livie finds herself facing mediocre grades, career aspirations she no longer thinks she can handle, and feelings for Ashton that she shouldn’t have, she’s forced to let go of her last promise to her father and, with it, the only identity that she knows.

I personally loved this series, make sure to check out my review of this book here.

Review: Switched by Cassie Mae

Switched
By: Cassie Mae
Release Date: December 2, 2013

Description:
Cassie Mae redefines the New Adult genre with a novel that answers the eternal question: What do you do when you’re head over heels for your best friend’s guy?
Ever since high school, Kayla has been crazy for gorgeous football player Talon. But before she could muster the courage to tell him, he became a hot item with her beautiful BFF, Reagan. The only person who knows Kayla’s secret is Wesley, Talon’s best bud—and he’s got it bad for Reagan. Now they’re all in college together, hanging out 24/7. For Kayla, seeing the two lovebirds together is absolutely unbearable. So Kayla and Wesley hatch a plot to drive them apart before Talon has a chance to give Reagan the Christmas gift she’s been waiting for.

Soon enough, the once happy couple is fighting. Reagan suddenly can’t get enough of Wesley’s goofy sense of humor, and Talon seems to be paying more attention to Kayla than a guy who’s “only a friend” ever should. But just when everything seems to be falling into place, Kayla and Wesley accidentally spend a night together and discover a hitch in their plan they never considered: that switching partners may not lead to a perfect ending after all.

Review:

This book was absolutely adorable in so many ways that I couldn’t get enough of it.  The author bought you into this world where the characters were real and awkward and funny and just oh so enthusiastic in their endeavor that you couldn’t help but enjoy it.   Talk about a love square where partners want to be “Switched” and some will try anything to do it.

We meet Kayla and Wes whose best friends are dating each other, only problem is that they wish they were dating them instead.  Of course a plan comes out where Kayla and Wes are going to do anything to break their best friends up and make them see how much they really want them instead.  It’s a foolproof plan in their eyes.  We see them flirt with the couple separately and try and show them who they really want.  This book is written very cutely with the progress report and then what really happens but it flows thoroughly throughout.  It was very much a book you couldn’t put down until you finished it, and it kept you thinking about the characters when you weren’t reading it.

From the very beginning you could tell who was meant for who and it wasn’t who they thought, because the friendship and deep seeded attraction that Wes and Kayla have for one another was so blind to each of them because the more time they would spend together the more things got awkward and weird.  But not in a bad way at all because to me it was absolutely adorable to watch love grow and blossom and realizations come through.  But it’s not just about them it’s also the relationship struggle between Reagan and Talon, the couple to break up.

Overall I enjoyed watching this adventure and love unfold and I have to say there were times when I thought they knew what was up, but there were times when I had my doubts but Regan and Talon were great in this book too.  They played their parts very well and they bought a little something different to the book.  After all characters can’t be the same and these four best friends were definitely different from each other and bought a different element to the book.  I think I could read about them again and again.  Just to see what kind of trouble they would get into together.

I really wouldn’t mind reading this through Wesley’s eyes because I think that would give so much more insight into how he really felt.  There were times where I just knew, I mean really knew that there was something there but Kayla just kept denying the whole thing to herself, sort of.   And let me just say you have no idea how much I wanted gummy bears the whole time reading this entire book and I still want gummy bears, I need to get a fix soon.  Mmm, gummy bears, Wesley, perfect.

Loved the book, loved the cover, loved the characters and plot, this was very much a fun innocent, good hearted read and a really great way to start off the New Year.  Definitely a book I would pick up again, check it out.

Review: Point of Retreat by Colleen Hoovier

Point of Retreat

Description:
Hardships and heartache brought them together…now it will tear them apart.

Layken and Will have proved their love can get them through anything; until someone from Will’s past re-emerges, leaving Layken questioning the very foundation on which their relationship was built. Will is forced to face the ultimate challenge…how to prove his love for a girl who refuses to stop ‘carving pumpkins.

Review:
This book was just as amazing as the first book.  The author really knows how to capture you with her writing.  She speaks to your heart, your mind and your soul.  You are absolutely sucked into this world with these characters and you can't help but fall in love with them and feel their pain, their smiles and their experiences alongside them.

We are back with Layken and Will and of course their little family, they still don't live together but they can't be apart.  The family they have pieced together works wonderfully.  There are some great new characters who even though they are weird really make a good difference in this book.  They add to it in a special way, the same way Lake's mother did in the first book.  Now that she is gone it's just them working together to keep things as easy as possible.  Lake and Will are still in school and trying to keep their relationship strong.

There are of course some circumstances and people from the past that show up that try to deter Lake and Will's relationship.  It's really sad though in some ways because it was a hiccup that never should have happened considering who it was and what they were and just read the book to figure out what I'm talking about because those two just weren't worth it.  But they did make the story necessary in some ways, because sometimes you need someone to push you to make you think about your situation and if it's the right one you want to be in, no doubts.

Again there was some amazing slam poetry in this book and I just want to run to some little underground place and hear some myself.  It's moving, it's addicting it's just beautiful in so many ways, slam poetry.  But even without the poetry this book is just written very beautifully that you can't help but fall in love with everyone all over again.  Your heart breaks for them. I've had tears in my eyes because there is always something getting in their way of being together.

Towards the ending the book definitely gets even more heartbreaking and you have to read it to find out why.  I just know there is only so much a person can handle and I was in tears.  This book is that good and I got that emotionally invested.  Amazing, on to the next book in the series.

Review:
This is definitely no Goddess Test revisited.  This is a new side to Aimee Carter that I'm loving.  I haven't read a dystopian book in quite a while, but this book has movie written all over it.  The characters were interesting, the setting is definitely interesting.  It's set in the future where everyone is ranked and marked with a symbol tattooed on their necks and only one family rule the whole country.  Talk about a monarchy where evil meets eviler. Is that a word, well it should be if it isn't.

We meet Kitty who was recently marked as a III which is not saying much, but she can't help that she can't read and they didn't give her additional help.  Either way now her life is ruined and she doesn't know what to do, so like any self respecting person she turns to prostitution, which let me just say didn't turn out so well for her.  before she can even get in the game she is purchased by Daxton Hart and her starts the story of Kitty as Lila Hart.

If that doesn't get your attention, how about they completely redo her entire figure, face, everything to be exactly like the late Lila Hart to trick the world into believing she really isn't dead.  Could you imagine the type of technology it would take to for example make someone taller longer hair, body shape different everything just seeing that alone would be fascinating and quite freaky because then if it could be done to one it could be done to many, think about that.

While Kitty tried to please everyone while pretending to be Lila Hart, it wasn't easy on her as she just wanted to be with Benjy her boyfriend from back home.  But she's been thrust upon this family who are all nuts by the way because they all just want to kill one another for one stupid reason or just plain greed.  It's interesting to watch Kitty flip flop between her feelings for each individual family member but when certain truths come out there's only one thing she can do, make sure to do the right thing in her eyes.

It gets quite hectic and exciting and adventurous (and kick ass) from the middle on to the end the book just keeps you at the edge of your seat because you just don't know what is going to happen next and that is what makes this book exciting.  Just when you think one thing is going to happen another thing happens.  Treacherous family to say the least, all for the power to rule the country or the power not to rule the country.  I know I wouldn't want it, would you?

There is so much going on and it's all so fabulous with the drama and the action in this book it definitely is a great start to a series.  Go Blackcoats! Go Kitty! You have to check this book out.  I can't wait to see what is going to happen next now that everyone in the family seems to know every little secret the other possesses or will new secrets come out.  Too good!

This led to penning her first YA . When she isn't thinking up new recipes for the cookbook she hopes to one day write, she is brainstorming a new novel and listening to country music. She lives in the tropics of Florida with her big fat Italian family and ornery feline companion.
