I wish I had TIME

Sometimes I wish I had a little more time to read, a little more time to sit down and relax and do something that I love to do.  Escape reality and run off to a faraway land where I can live vicariously through other people and experience their daily lives.  Yup you know it, read.  I wish I had more time to read.

What would you read?
Oh you know everything that came out this year that I did not have a chance to read yet.

Such as ...

Reached by Allie Condie
Ten by Gretchen McNeil
Girl of Nightmares by Kendare Blake

And really there are just too many to mention I have lists and lists of books all over the place that I haven't been able to get to.  I don't think I've even read a single book I got at Book Expo, I need to find something to do with them.  Maybe I"ll give them away for the new year.

I'm really addicted to my Kindle right now so lugging around a book is just not that easy for me anymore.  So I have to have everything digital.  So my actual books are desperately being neglected.

I can't believe it's the end of the year.  Will have to do an end of the year review on what books I've read and I hope you all stop by to check it out.  In the meantime keep a lookout for a giveaway coming next month of some of the books I've gotten from Book Expo, if you look at old posts you might even find a picture of some of the books I got.

I'm off next week going to go live in Flip Flops for a week and until then Happy Holidays Everyone!!!

About the Author:
I’ve been writing since first setting pencil to steno pad at age 8. A year later, I began developing the world of my current series-in-progress, and even created its title, The Silver Sphere. Now, with the support of years of experience, those early maps and back stories have progressed into what I hope is a fresh and entertaining take on the classic young adult fantasy adventure.

Despite my frequent escapes into parallel worlds, I root myself firmly in my very real family and community. When not pacing the yard maniacally after every few pages of writing, I spend as much time as possible hanging out with my studly 9-year-old son, and my inspirational wife Jenna. I also coach several local youth sports teams in Beverly Hills, and alternate between yelling at my two crazy Corgis and hiking with my trained German Shepherd.

For more, join me in my favorite fantasy worlds, from Lord of the Rings to the creations of C.S. Lewis, Anne McCaffrey and Terry Brooks. Even more importantly, stop by and say hello on my Facebook page at AuthorMichaelDadich, tweet me at @MichaelDadich, and stalk my website at http://www.thesilversphere.org.

Review: Opal (Lux #3)

This series just gets better and better the more we read into it, no kidding. If you haven’t read the other books then there will definitely be spoilers in this review. First of all what a wonderful Christmastime joy to be able to read this book it’s like an extra gift I just gave myself. The book was a continuation of the series in a great way, showing different facets of each individual. Some you like and some you just can’t stand, but either way you can’t get enough of all of them.

We are back in this little town in the middle of nowhere, where aliens roam freely but secretly. Katy and Daemon are still at each other with their quick wits but there is more two them now, they are in love and have finally admitted just how much each other mean to the other. Through all this trial and tribulations they have still found the time to go on “normal” dates which is something Katy adores about Daemon. Even if the earth was ending soon I think he would still take her out on a date just to make her more at ease. Their relationship definitely gets closer than they have been before and it’s a beautiful thing to watch, even though sometimes their timing is just a little off with all the interruptions.

Dee is still mourning Andrew and not speaking to Katy, even though she eventually starts to let her in a little by the end. Everything has changed with that last battle. With Dawson home and his constant need to find Beth and runaway they all ban together and try to rescue her with the help of Blake who is never trustworthy, never. Daemon had it right the first time, his instincts were right on. So all of them try to devise a plan to rescue Beth and Chris from where they are being held. With impending doom and unknown factors they march on and go on with the mission. I don’t want to say what happens next but the ending was good, albeit a cliffhanger it was still really good.
Overall this book was great; it gave you more of Katy and Daemon and their relationship growth as well as a sufficient amount of other characters and plenty of action. As everyone’s powers grow and discoveries are made you want to be more engrossed in their lives. Really great series and I can’t wait to see what happens next, I mean I really can’t wait. Someone tell me please! That’s how good this book was, seriously if you haven’t read this series yet you have to crawl out from under that rock and get to it. We’re three books in already (with a novella) and each one is definitely worth the read.

Cover reveal: Lennon’s Jinx by Chris Myers

Lennon's Jinx
By: Chris Myers
Release Date: January 15, 2013

Description:
Sometimes, we don’t get to choose who we fall for.

Lennon spends most of his time raising his little sister Currie while trying to skate through his senior year of high school. He prefers groupies with no-strings attached but finds himself strangely attracted to Jinx, the straight-A student in his choir. Lennon’s curiosity overrules his good sense as he tries to peel away the layers to discover the underlying reason for Jinx’s skittishness.

Jinx conceals the black truth about herself from her friends. She won’t admit to them that she screwed up big time, losing her first love and what she once held most precious.

When Lennon’s band holds auditions to replace their keyboard player, Jinx comes to tryout and almost leaves after seeing Lennon. Despite the fact she despises him, she joins the band to nurture her love of music that will hopefully ease the guilt gnawing away at her.

Like the rest of his band mates, Jinx soon witnesses Lennon battling his infamous father. While confronting his pent-up anger at his dad, Lennon exposes vulnerabilities he had no intention of letting any girl ever see, especially Jinx. Their reckless pasts may bring them together or further complicate their already messy lives.

About the Author:
Chris Myers suffers from an overactive imagination. In second grade, Sister Bernice produced Chris's first play about pumpkins mauling and eating children. Apparently, the nuns didn’t catch the underlying meaning. This instantly raised Chris to stardom amongst her peers for the several days off from schoolwork while in production. She spent her high school years writing torch songs for fantasy guys then moved onto writing thrillers and young adult. Chris lives in Colorado with her daughter, her better half, and BeBe, a rambunctious Bichon.

Chris literally has very few photos of herself, even though photography put her through college. Here she is with her sisters and daughter. Chris is the one with the vino.

Chris started out as an art major, then moved to bio-chem, hoping to play Victor Frankenstein as a genetic engineer or messing with people's minds as a psychiatrist. Just as she was about to graduate, she decided being broke for another four to ten years wouldn't work out for her adventurous spirt and traveling. She ended up with an electrical engineering degree then a masters. As it turns out, she should've finished her first novel twenty-five years ago and stuck in the make-believe world where she is happiest.

Danger awaits them around every corner as they search for answers. In the end a choice will need to be made, but is Chloe strong enough to make it?

*********************************
Review:
A very rare thing has happened today, I've read a sequel that was more amazing than the first book.  The Impossible Engineers was so much better than the first and I thought the first was pretty good.  This series is turning out to be action packed and full of so much intensity that I can't wait to complete this and I do hope that the author comes out with a spin off as I read on the books website.  Because really this needs to be a TV show or something so I can see it all the time.  That's how good this book was.

We are back with Chloe and her chaotic world of this secret society with special powers.  They are just getting over their last attack when more chaos breaks out.  They are in a rush to find another artifact before the First Kind does.  There's danger around every corner for Chloe and her friends.  While trying to deal with the fact that her Mother is working for the other side that she is trying to defeat she is trying hard to keep it all together and keep that strength she has within herself.  Her boyfriend Slade is turning out to be not the person she thought he was.

Slade has been announcing to anyone who would listen to how he and Chloe were going to the school dance, and if you know Chloe that is just not the type of person she is but she does it anyway to appease him.  But before this she meets his family for the first time which doesn't go as smoothly as she thought it would.  There is so much tension between everyone that there are little cracks that break their barriers down and you begin to wonder exactly who is it that you can trust anymore

With her mom, the dance, Slade and of course finding the artifact there is so much going on in her life that she is all over the place.  But there is one person who gets her better than anyone and that's Nightshade.  In this book you explore their relationship a little further and you can plainly see how much they belong together, but sometimes things don't work out the way they should.  Chloe also learns that she seems to have more abilities than her friends do but she cant trust anyone with this information and that tears her apart inside because i think all she wants is someone she can finally confide in completely.

All in all this book was intense and had so many different things happening.  You have parental issues, boyfriend issues, action, adventure, new experiences, trust issues and just everything you could think of and all this intensified greatly.  Really I finished this book and all I thought man was that amazing and seriously intense.  I think it was all the action that was going on, really fabulous.  Once you get going you can't stop.  Sure the ending isn't what I wanted because I am a hopeless romantic and wanted things to end differently but I still have hope that something will fix this.  I just know it will, or at least hope it will.

Read the book, read the first book, get into this series because it will be an adventure you will not forget and what a ride it was.  Intense, fun and exciting this book was great and I am loving the new covers for this series so simple yet so intriguing.  AH-MA-ZING READ! I love all the characters and the story is just fun.

Review: Welcome, Caller, This Is Chloe

Welcome, Caller, This Is Chloe
By:
Release Date: May 1, 2012

Description:
Big-hearted Chloe Camden is the queen of her universe until her best friend shreds her reputation and her school counselor axes her junior independent study project. Chloe is forced to take on a meaningful project in order to pass, and so she joins her school’s struggling radio station, where the other students don’t find her too queenly. Ostracized by her former BFs and struggling with her beloved Grams’s mental deterioration, lonely Chloe ends up hosting a call-in show that gets the station much-needed publicity and, in the end, trouble. She also befriends radio techie and loner Duncan Moore, a quiet soul with a romantic heart. On and off the air, Chloe faces her loneliness and helps others find the fun and joy in everyday life. Readers will fall in love with Chloe as she falls in love with the radio station and the misfits who call it home.

Review:
This was a really sweet read. It showed you how many different people deal with different situations in their lives. While one person might find the laughter even in tough situations others might close themselves off completely. But then sometimes that laughter can be contagious.

We meet Chloe as she is being shunned by her two besties for reasons unknown to her, then to top it off her JISP was refused and now she has to find a new topic, and let’s not mention world war iii that is happening between her grandmother and her mother, but through all of this Chloe still tries to find laughter in her life. She puts on a smile and marches forward, she’s the type of person who wears her emotions right there on her sleeve for everyone to see. She hears whisperings about her, but doesn’t know why.

As she retreats to her new JISP project which is to do business models and help KRDS the Edge, the school radio station stay afloat for a while longer. Here, in the most unexpected of places she forms new friendships with people she wouldn’t otherwise converse with. She also starts to fall for the quiet broad shouldered Duncan who has plenty of baggage he carries around with him. But Chloe being the outgoing person she is, she starts to intertwine herself with this reclusive kids and she brings them out of their shell just a little bit and all the while making some new great friends.

Things escalate and deescalate at home with Grams and her mom, but nothing that Chloe can’t handle. Things also move forward with Duncan, she learns about his baggage and helps him through it, all the while trying to save the radio station for its inevitable demise because of funding.

Overall this was a really great book, think sunshiny with a purpose. It really goes to show you every little bit helps and you will find a new family in the most unexpected places if you give it a chance. The main character is very likeable, it’s try who doesn’t like Chloe and if they don’t it’s because they are obviously hating on themselves. The Radio Station staff is also very likeable and you want to learn more about their individual stories as well. The setting is very general and relatable to any high school student. The cover, super cute and I can completely picture her and all her fancy vintage shoes; oh the shoes discussed in this book are quite fabulous!

Musing Monday: Unfinished!

MUSING MONDAYS… is a weekly event where MizB at Should be Reading will ask a book/reading-related question, and you answer with your own thoughts on the topic.

This week’s musing asks…

What was the last book you could not finish and why?

This happened quite recently actually.  I don't like not finishing books but sometimes you just can't get into it.  it happens very rarely with me but it happens.  It was the Dream Slayer by Jill Cooper.  I don't know what it was about it, we didn't click at all.  I couldn't finish it and had to opt out of doing a review.  Again this actually hasn't happened to me in a really long time.  Even if I don't like the book I could finish it with a valiant attempt.  But this one, I just didn't want to do it, didn't want to waste my time.  The story was really out there and semi confusing and just eh.  Not to say the book was bad it's just that it wasn't for me.  Simple as that.  How about you?  What book couldn't you finish and why?

Musing Monday: Organization

MUSING MONDAYS… is a weekly event where MizB at Should be Reading will ask a book/reading-related question, and you answer with your own thoughts on the topic.

This week’s musing asks…
How do you organize/store your books? Do you go through them often? Or do you pretty much just shelve them and then leave them alone until you need them?

Organization - what's that? I'm probably the most unorganized person, definitely do not put any books in order by author, genre, anything really. They are just all piled around in various closets around the house and shelves here and there. I usually only read on my e-reader and don’t pick up regular books, I know, I know, how horrible of me. It just makes my life easier to have everything in one location. Although I will say this again none of my books are organized on the kindle so if you have one you know what I mean when the scrolling can take forever when you are looking for something, but then again they do have that nifty search bar that I use quite regularly. Oh yeah and the ones on my shelves, I haven't looked at them in a while, tsk tsk I know.  Sometimes I take a peak and then I look for the e-book version of it, ha.

Yeah so how about you, are you organized?

****************************************
Review:
This book did not disappoint in the least, when I was reading the book I really felt that whole Gossip Girl meets Hollywood (Malibu) vibe. You have main characters who are all children of famous celebrities, producers etc, all living a luxurious life but trying to be normal. There is no such thing as normal as soon as everyone realizes that we can all get along, he he, and back to the book.

We meet Keatyn whose boyfriend is drunk somewhere during the party and never wants to pay her any mind. I immediately had my suspicions about him; I can’t believe how some people just don’t notice what is right in front of them, seriously. Anyway so she spends time with her good friend Cush, who is always hitting on her, she realizes maybe it’s time to dump her boyfriend and go for the surfer boy she’s been in love with for years, Brooklyn. Which I absolutely love the name. She does just that but then it seems as if maybe Brooklyn really isn’t that into her.

She moves on to Cush, who seems to have it bad for her, who knew he could have a girlfriend. But things transpire and there is a bad breakup which leads her back to Brooklyn. It’s all very much back and forth with the different guys; she just doesn’t know who she wants. Then comes the stress of a stalker out on the loose looking for her mother, or is he now looking for her?

Things become more intense and throughout the whole thing Keatyn is still confused about which guy she wants in her life. When the stalker turns out to now want her she is shipped off after her birthday party. She’s now attending a new school and has to try living a slightly different lifestyle, and yes you’ve guessed it there’s a new guy she’s got her eye on, Aiden. Can’t wait to see what progresses with those two in the next book.

Even though the book description seems to be more about stalking I think that’s more of a side story here. It focuses a lot on Keatyn and who she is, who she wants to be, who she turns out to be and also of course all the many men in her life. Who to choose it’s so hard, which team are you on? Make sure you check the book out especially if you like things such as Gossip Girl, The OC, and Mean Girls and even dare I say a touch of Sex in the City. It was an interesting read that really surprised me because I didn’t think I was going to like it but now I can honestly say I’m hooked, can’t wait for the next one!
